Summer is here and it's time to start hitting those beaches! Here are 5 ways to get your body into the shape you want so you won't feel self conscious when catching some waves and rays.

1) Calorie counting There have been many people that have tried to discredit calorie counting as a way to lose weight but it continues to be one of the most effective methods for trimming up the love handles. The human body requires about 2500 calories a day to maintain your body weight. When we exceed this number of calories (especially when not working out) your body stores the excess calories as fat.

2) Structured meal times When figuring out what you will eat throughout the course of the day to reach your target number of calories, the next thing to figure out is when to eat. It's important to eat something, at least something small every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism burning. When our metabolism slows down, it's harder for our bodies to process the next meal as effectively. It is veryimportant that you start your day out with breakfast. A low calorie meal idea for mornings to get your metabolism started is oatmeal and fruit. There are many other ideas but that's typically my go to.

3) GREEN TEA!! Don't buy into the hype with all the weight loss supplements or fads. Sure sometimes they work but they're typically very over priced! If you look at almost any workout supplement for weight loss, it's key ingredient is green tea, or green tea extract. Green tea kicks your metabolism into high gear and helps target love handle and lower stomach fat. Buy green tea bags from any grocer, it's very cheap. Brew a gallon of it, it's not difficult and the instructions are typically on the box. Green tea in itself has kind of a bitter after taste but there are healthy ways to add flavor like honey or citrus. Experiment until you find your own mix. Drink throughout the day regularly and you'll begin to see effects in a matter of weeks.

4) Goal oriented workout plans There's no two ways around it. If you want to get fit, you're going to have to workout. It's important when working out to make sure you have a plan that fits your specific goals. I.e. if you want to burn fat you'll need a high cardio plan that implements ab workouts. There are many great sites that will assist you in finding a good workout plan and we also offer 4 week workout plans for $10 (email or FB message if interested). The prior things listed will aid your progress even quicker but your workout must be your foundation.

5) Be yourself It's so easy to look at magazines such as Victoria's Secret, Men's Magazine, etc and compare ourselves to those people. Truth is we aren't all those people, and a lot of those people aren't even those people thanks to the likes of photoshop. The purpose of working out is to feel good in your own skin. That can mean different things to different people. Be yourself and embrace who you are. Don't hold yourself to someone else's standards.
